The Outcast Opera Company is a performing arts collective for local Brisbane artists across multiple disciplines. Created specifically for young and emerging performers, Outcast aims to create exciting new vocal works that are not limited by traditional forms or instrumentation.

For an artform to survive, it must innovate and grow and the European tradition of opera is only one facet of this complex genre. Our goal at Outcast is to experiment with opera and the trained classical voice to create uniquely Australian works that reflects the wonderful cultural diversity of our nation.

Brisbane is a city of Festivals and we are dedicated to creating work for non-traditional venues and public spaces. By combining dance, circus, physical theatre, voice, animation and new technologies, Outcast works are designed to be both challenging for our artists and friendly to modern Australian audiences.

Outcast Avant-garde is an offshoot of our main company and gives our artists and composers the freedom to take risks and explore their potential in a supportive network. Designed to push artistic boundaries, Outcast Avant-garde works may be musically or visually complex, highly virtuosic or aesthetically unusual. If you are feeling musically adventurous, these shows might be for you.
